Introduction to Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that has been used for centuries to treat a wide variety of conditions. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body, known as acupuncture points, to stimulate the body's natural healing processes.
It is believed that the needles stimulate the nervous system and release natural painkillers and other chemicals in the body. This can help to reduce pain, inflammation, and stress, as well as improve circulation and immune function.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory
Acupuncture is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which views the body as a complex system of energy channels or meridians. According to TCM theory, the flow of energy, or qi, through these channels can be disrupted by physical or emotional imbalances, leading to pain, illness, or other health problems.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points along the body's meridians. These points correspond to different organs, systems, or functions of the body, and the stimulation of these points is thought to restore the flow of qi and promote healing.
Research suggests that it stimulates the release of endorphins and other natural painkillers, reduce inflammation, and modulate the autonomic nervous system. Acupuncture may also affect the release of neurotransmitters and hormones, which can have a wide range of effects on the body and mind.
The main benefits of Acupuncture
One of the most common uses of acupuncture is for pain relief, particularly in the treatment of chronic pain conditions such as back pain, injuries, headaches, and arthritis.
Acupuncture has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety by promoting relaxation and reducing the body's physiological response to stress. It can also improve sleep and overall well-being.
Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of digestive issues, including irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea. It works by regulating the digestive system and reducing inflammation. It is also very beneficial for immunity.
Acupuncture can be used to improve the chances of conception. It works by improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, regulating hormones and promote relaxation.
Acupuncture can be used also in conjunction with IVF/IUI and other fertility treatments.
